I Have now been living in Tulum for 2 months and I am still feeling a disconnect here. There is a a divide in the people and vibes that are here. You have your indigenous local people who living their life as normal, then you have your tourists who are only here for a week or two, partying/vacation vibes and then you have your the other locals, the people who come to live here and live a care-free, "hippie" sort of life. Correct me if you think I am wrong but from my observations that is what I have noticed/experienced.

For myself I'm not sure where I fit in. But in some ways that could be my own fault. I am an introvert and so for me I find it hard to meet new people, start a conversation and get myself out of my comfort zone. I am completely fine staying at home and taking it easy, definitely not someone who needs to go out all the time. Also I am not working so that also takes away from meeting people that way.

But with that being said I also don't think it's all my fault. You aren't going to make a ton of great friends or built relationships with people who are going to be leaving in a couple days, or with locals who you have nothing in common with. And you don't only want to meet people who are expats, you want to have friends who are locals so that you can learn and maybe get more of a connection to the place you are living in.

Tulum has still been great and I do love it here and many aspects about it. It's beautiful, no denying that, it's hot all the time which for this Canadian is a nic welcomed change and amazing to be immersed in a different culture and to be constantly learning and challenging yourself.

Have you lived abroad? I have before but again the circumstances weren't in my favour of meeting people, so how did you meet people? What were your experiences like? Did you find it easy? What are your tips for getting out of your comfort zone and getting out and meeting people?
