I am not one to usually get all dressed up this season. I keep things pretty cozy, wearing big sweaters, jeans and scarves. But occasionally (if I have a reason) I get dressed up for a party or whatever it might be. This year my reason to get dressed up was for the ballet. A friend and myself went to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet (which is one of the world's premier dance companies) to watch the Nutcracker. It was a beautiful performance and great reason to put a dress on.

I put my new sleeveless knit over top of this dress which paired wonderfully and added simple accessories. So here are 5 tips or options to help you get ready for a Christmas party or festive occasion.

1. Like seen here in this outfit, black and gold always works.
2.  Mix it up. You want to dress up but still be warm, if you are wearing a skirt or dress add high boots and a sweater or if you are wearing a cami or strapless top then add a scarf and pantyhose under your pants or skirt.
3. Make your make-up stand out. Do more then your usual make-up routine, do a smokey eye or a red lip. Make-up always finishes off an outfit.
4. Less is more. Stick to a couple accessories, pick your favourite or more fancy pieces (like pearls or diamonds) like a necklace and a ring or a bracelet and earrings. But not all at once, keep it simple.
5. An all white look is very festive. No cotton though, keep it elevated like with silks and wools.
